SHAFAQNA- Syrian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem arrived in Tehran on Tuesday and met with high-ranking Iranian officials.
According to Shafaqna, Iranian President, Hasan Rouhani during a meeting on Wednesday told Walid al-Moallem “Establishing a complete security and stability in Syria is one of the important political and regional objectives of Islamic Republic of Iran”.
“After the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, Tehran and Damascus started close and brotherly relations which will continue with more speed in line with mutual interests”, he said.
Hailing the victories and successes achieved by the Syrian people and government in the fight and resistance against terrorism, the Iranian president said such victory over a big plot hatched by the US and certain states is undoubtedly a great success for both Syria and the entire region.
Pointing to problems on the way to win a complete victory in Syria, President Rouhani said it is necessary to have stronger cooperation and coordination in this way as the two sides follow to reach common goals, Irna reported.
Iranian president further stressed the importance of strengthening long-term bilateral relations. “To achieve such an end, the two countries should take steps towards serving national interests”, he added.
Referring to the recent visit to Syria by Iran’s first Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, the president said the visit was important and produced desirable outcomes.
For his part, the Syrian foreign minister appreciated Iran’s all-out support for the Syrian people in their fight against terrorism.
“The Syrian people and government admire Iran’s principled stance on supporting territorial integrity of Syria and helping the country combat terrorism and foreign occupation”, al-Moallem said.
“Damascus relies on Iran’s support”, he stressed.
He further said Iran’s success in aborting the US conspiracies is, undoubtedly, a great achievement for the whole region, including Syria.
Describing Jahangiri’s trip to Syria as fruitful, al-Moallem said the Syrian government was planning to shortly follow up implementation of the agreements reached by the two sides.

Cooperation between Iran and Syria in the fight against Takfiri terrorism has resulted in undeniable achievements for the region and international security and this trend will be continued until the end of the security crisis in this [Arab] country,” Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Tehran on Tuesday.
He further said certain Western countries’ “excessive demands” and “acts of sabotage” targeting the political process in Syria indicate that their “illogical positions and pretexts” are merely aimed at prolonging the crisis gripping the Middle Eastern country.
Shamkhani further urged Muslim countries to reinforce their convergence and strengthen cooperation to solve their common problems.
“Common enemies of the Muslim world, particularly the US and the Zionist regime (Israel), are trying to destroy great interests of Muslim countries such as security and economic progress by creating and intensifying conflicts and discord,” the SNSC secretary said.
The top Iranian security official also censured as “unacceptable” the Israeli regime’s continued acts of aggression against Syrian soil and violations of its territorial integrity.
“If these actions continue, some calculated strategies will be activated for deterrence and as a firm and appropriate response in a way to teach a lesson to the criminal and lying rulers of Israel.”
Elsewhere in the meeting, Shamkhani stressed the importance of improving relations between Tehran and Damascus in various fields, particularly in trade and economic sectors, emphasizing that Iran would stand by Syria in the reconstruction plans of the war-ravaged country.
Zarif : Israel doesn’t want peace in Syria, Mideast
Iran is ready to help rebuild Syria, the Islamic republic’s top diplomat said Tuesday as he hosted his Syrian counterpart in Tehran.
Mohammad Javad Zarif met Walid Mouallem for closed-door talks at the Islamic republic’s foreign ministry.
Zarif confirmed “the readiness of Iranian companies to cooperate economically with Syria during the reconstruction period,” the ministry said in a statement, France24 reported.
During the meeting, Zarif said the Tel Aviv regime does not favor the establishment of peace and security in Syria and the entire Middle East.
He further called on regional countries to boost their convergence and cooperation to counter any plots against them, press tv reported.
For his part, Muallem commended Iran for supporting Syria against terrorism, saying Syria’s recent victories against terrorists also belong to Iran and other allies of Damascus.
Muallem also briefed Zarif on the latest developments in Syria and the ongoing process for the political settlement of conflicts in his country, xinhuanet reported.
Syria’s resistance foiled enemies’ adventurism: Larijani
Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani also held a meeting with Muallem, during which he said the Syrian people’s resistance has neutralized the enemies’ adventurism.
The top Iranian parliamentarian told the visiting Syrian foreign minister that Tehran and Damascus should boost their trade ties in 2019.
For his part, Muallem criticized Washington’s double-standard approaches to Syria and said despite its claims, the United States has not reduced its forces in the Arab country but has even increased their numbers under the pretext of supervising the planned pullout process.
The visit to Tehran by the Syrian foreign minister is taking place at a time when the 4th tripartite talks of the leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey over the latest developments in Syria is already slated for Feb 14 in the Russian resort city of Sochi.
Iranian FM, UN envoy meet in Tehran to discuss Syria
Al-Moallem’s arrival in Tehran coincided with the first visit to Tehran by the UN’s new Syria envoy, Geir Pedersen, who also met Zarif and his senior aide on political affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari on Tuesday to discuss the human crisis in Syria.

In a statement, the ministry said the two men had also discussed the refugee crisis and the need for a new Syrian constitution.
They also exchanged views on the fight against terrorism and Washington’s planned troop withdrawal from Syria, according to the statement.
Pedersen and Zarif further agreed on the need for stepped-up cooperation between the UN and Tehran with a view to resolving the years-long Syria crisis, AA reported.
