Iran UN envoy: No ties between terrorist groups, Islam

SHAFAQNA – Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Hossein Dehqani has said Terrorist groups are created by certain groups and are by no means related to Islam.

Addressing a recent UN meeting on terrorism, Dehqani said as a victim of terrorism, Iran has always condemned all forms of the vicious phenomenon, particularly the state terrorism.

Noting that no reason would justify using terror against innocent people, the envoy urged international community to give due consideration to the grounds leading to emergence of terrorism in modern world.

Dehqani regretted that certain parties are using terrorist groups to achieve their own narrow-minded objectives.

Dehqani urged international community to provide a comprehensive definition of terrorism and compile an international convention against the vicious phenomenon.

Referring to brutalities committed by Takfiri and terrorist groups in the region, the Iranian envoy said terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, Bokoharam and Al-Nusra Front are by no means related to Islam. Such groups are threatening their own creators, he added.

He stressed that the first step to fight terrorism is to stop all financial aid or support for them.

Criticizing the Zionist regime for its supports for terrorists, the envoy said those supports have led to creation of terrorist groups in the region including Daesh (ISIS), Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra Front..
