Iran vs. Spain: If all goes well Carlos Queiroz will have secured his reputation

SHAFAQNA: Iran is now at top of Group B and has a high chance of advancing to the knockout stage for the first time in their history.  If all goes well versus Spain, and then against Portugal, Carlos Queiroz will have secured his reputation as one of the world’s top coaches.

Spain will face Iran on June 20 in Kazan in Group B of the 2018 World Cup.

“Thank God we won our first game against Morocco. It was a very important match for us and we dedicate this victory to our fans. The victory was achieved with many sacrifices from players and coaching staff”, Beiranvand told AS.

“But it’s not time to celebrate. We will concentrate for the next match, everybody knows that Spain is one of the greatest teams in the history of football and what we can guarantee is that we’re going to make it difficult for them, “the Persepolis goalie said.

Beiranvand was one of the key men in the victory over Morocco on Friday in St. Petersburg with a decisive dive in the second half.

“We have been drawn in the toughest group in the World Cup. We have a former world champion, the current European champion and the African best team in Group B,” he added.

“But we want to do something big, something huge, a surprise that is qualifying for the second round and we will give the best of ourselves,” Beiranvand said.

This would be the second match for both Iran and Spain. While Iranians gained a dramatic victory over Morocco at their first match, Spain earned only 1 point against Cristiano Ronaldo’s team.

Iran is now at top of Group B and has a high chance of advancing to the knockout stage for the first time in their history.

Another interesting point regarding Kazan Arena is that it is home to Russian club Kubin Kazan which uses Iranian forward Sardar Azmoun in their squad. The talented 23-year-old footballer, who is sometimes called ‘Iranian Messi’, is totally familiar with the stadium and it is expected that he stuns spectators in the coming game, MNA reported.

Carlos Queiroz has guided three national teams to four World Cups but the game against Spain on Wednesday could prove to be his finest hour and a half, not just on the global stage but in a long and distinguished coaching career. If all goes well in Kazan vs. Spain, and then against Portugal in Saransk, the 65-year-old will have secured his reputation as one of the world’s top coaches.

Queiroz is a coach who does not always forgive and never forgets. A fiery character, he has resigned from the Iran job on numerous occasions before returning days or weeks later.

If Queiroz can get something in the next games against teams he knows well and would love to beat and takes Iran to the next stage, it would be a fantastic achievement. It would confirm that he is one of the best around and would surely give him the pick of jobs when he departs. Yet, no matter who comes calling, there seems to be something about Iran for Queiroz. The relationship is not always smooth but it gets results. And their World Cup is only just beginning.
