Iranian Lawyer: Saudi Arabia is a bargainer, won’t be boycotted

SHAFAQNA- “The reality is that the international arena are always pursuing their interests and Saudi Arabia has always been a bargainer. Never forgot that UN changed its vote on the Yemen’ worst humanitarian crisis, due to Riyadh’s threat to reduce financial support”, International law expert, Davoud Aghaei, said.
Referring to the alleged murder of  Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and international human rights law, Aghae told Shafaqna “According to the rule of law and international law, including the human rights, Saudi Arabia may become under pressure. Of course the pressure wouldn’t change to imposing sanction, but other countries may reconsider their relationship with Saudi Arabia.
The lawyer said that journalists are always at risk because of their accessibility to news and information and they have been threatened by governments, underlining that if Saudi Arabia is proven to be behind the assassination of Khashoggi, it faces with international community pressure mounting on Saudi rulers.
“This wouldn’t happen,” he responded to the question about probability of imposing sanctions on Riyadh, adding that the reality is that the International arena are always pursuing their interests and Saudi Arabia has always been a bargainer. Never forgot that UN changed its vote on the Yemen’ worst humanitarian crisis, due to Riyadh’s threat to reduce financial support.
US President Donald Trump explicitly explains the importance and necessity of a billion-dollar deal with Saudi Arabia to provide arms and considers the loss of the contract a major loss. This is indicating that the US is reluctant to lose a big market like Saudi Arabia.
In the meantime, the EU may not behave like the United States, but it is also unlikely to impose sanctions on Riyadh.
