Is it true that if a fasting person gets thirsty, can drink water and the fast is correct? The Grand Ayatollah Makarem’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi answered a question about fasting and drinking water.

Question: Is this true that when a fasting person is thirsty, can drink water to the necessary amount and the fast is correct?

The Grand Ayatollah Makarem: By drinking even a drop of water, fast becomes void (Batel), and the fact that some say when a fasting person gets thirsty can drink water and the fast is correct, there is a problem both from the point of authenticity and the implication; and if someone issues such Fatwa, it is against the Fatwas of all Islamic scholars (jurists).
