Is prayer accepted without any action?

SHAFAQNA – A companion of Imam Sadeq (AS) came to see him and asked from Imam (AS) to pray for him by saying: O’ the son of the Prophet (PBUH), request from Allah (SWT) for me to have a comfortable and prosperous life. Imam Sadeq (AS) replied: I do not pray for you, you seek the comfortable and prosperous life the way God commanded (meaning by effort and endeavor) [1]. In another narration, Imam Sadeq (AS) said: Some people’s prayers are not accepted by God, such as the man who is sitting in his house and constantly saying: O’ God, give me sustenance. It is replied to such person: Have I not commanded you to attain your sustenance by effort and endeavor [2].
