Isna.ir/Iran reiterates sovereignty on three Persian Gulf islands

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association) Iran categorically rejected (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council statement, reiterating that the three southern islands located near Persian Gulf are inseparable parts of its territory.

The three Iranian islands of Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa are inseparable parts of Iranian soil and these unfounded claims will fail to overshadow historical facts, said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has put non-intervention in internal affairs of other countries and mutual respect on top of its diplomacy. It puts no limitation in deepening friendly ties and welcomes constructive interaction and enormous and multilateral cooperation.”

On Tuesday, the six-nation (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council issued a statement at the end of its 133rd foreign ministerial meeting in the Qatari capital, Doha, reiterating support for the UAE’s claimed ownership to the three islands of Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa.

The three islands have been historically part of Iran, the proof of which can be found in and corroborated by countless historical, legal and geographical documents in Iran and other parts of the world.

The United Arab Emirates has, however, repeatedly laid claim to the islands.
