Israel raids Palestinian cities in West Bank

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – Many Palestinians on Friday suffered temporary asphyxiation after the Israeli army used teargas to disperse anti-occupation demonstrations in the West Bank, Palestinian activists have said. In a statement, Palestinian Popular Resistance Committees in the West Bank said Israeli forces had dispersed a demonstration near Bil’in village in Ramallah, leaving scores of protesters suffering temporary asphyxiation.

According to the committees, protesters had chanted slogans calling for the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Some 7,000 Palestinians are currently in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs. Many of Palestinians were also injured when the Israeli army using rubber bullets and teargas broke up a number of protests in western Nablus, Hebron and Bethlehem, the committees said.

Protesters had marched toward plots of land that Israel planned to confiscate, on which they defiantly planted olive trees, one eyewitness said. He added that Israeli troops had fired on protesters, injuring some and leaving others suffering temporary asphyxiation as a result of teargas.

The International Middle-East Media Center said that the soldiers kidnapped Daoud Suleiman Radayda, 20, near the Morad Hotel and Resort, in Dar Salah village, and handed another Palestinian, a military order for interrogation in the town of ‘Obeidiyya, east of Bethlehem.

The Popular Resistance Committees bring together Palestinian activists who organize events in the West Bank to protest Israel’s longstanding occupation of Palestinian land.
