Jealousy according to Quran and narrations

SHAFAQNA – The word Jealousy or envy is mentioned four times in the holy Quran; in Ayah 109 of Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 32 of Surah Al-Nesa, Ayah 54 of Surah Al-Nesa and Ayah 5 of Surah Al-Falaq. There are many narrations regarding the causes and signs of jealousy. According to a narration from the prophet of Islam (PBUH), jealousy or envy is one of the most disapproved habits that no one is immune from it.

In another narration, envy is considered as very ugly and one of the most dangerous and greatest sins as well as being the first sin committed in the skies by Iblis (Satan) and on the earth by Qaabeel (Cain) who killed his brother Haabeel (Abel) as a result of jealousy [1]. Imam Ali (AS) also said: The root of all wicked acts and disapproved attributes is jealousy [2]. In another narration, Imam Ali (AS) said: The worst people in life are the jealous ones [3].
