Leader of Islamic Movement in Kano urge Acting President to release Sheikh Zakzaky

SHAFAQNA – The leader of the Islamic Movement in Kano Dr. Sunusi Abdulqadir has called on the Acting President Prof Yemi Osinbanjo to compel Department of State Services and Nigerian Police to obey the Court judgement of Federal High Court Abuja and release Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife who are in illegal since 14-December-2015.

Dr. Sunusi who spoke to Pointer Express correspondent during a one year commemoration of the martyrdom of eight family members of Sheik El-Zakzaky organized by Fulani Forum of the Islamic Movement at Royal Dream Banquet Mararaba in Abuja on 26 Feb-2017, adding that the acting President has a good image and reputation of fundamental Human rights as a legal luminary

He said 100 days after the followers of Islamic Movement were attacked during Annual Ashura symbolic Trek from Kano to Zaria which resulted to the death of over 28 people the perpetrators are yet to be prosecuted before any court of competent jurisdiction while 58 people including women and minors are still in detention at Kurmawa and Goron Dutse Prisons some with various degrees of gun injuries because of injustice and impunity.

He further said out of 28 people that were killed by the police 19 corpses are still being withheld for the reason best known to them, saying this atrocities could jeopardize the unity and tranquility of Nigeria.

It could be recalled on 14-Nov-2017 the Police has opened fire on thousands members of the Islamic Movement on their mission to Trek from Kano to Zaria to mark the Annual Ashura commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein A.S the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.

Nigeria as a multi-religious country,practices of Shi’a Islam has not violated the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as follows:

Constitution of Nigeria, Article 38 Freedom of religion (1999):

(1) Every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom (Either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching,practice and observance.

The Salafist President Muhammad Buhari is using government’s machinery to persecute Shi’a minority in Nigeria in order to serve the interest of Saudi Arabian foreign policy. Nigeria, which has 180 millions people and is Africa’s most populous nation, combines a predominantly Christians south and mainly Sunni Muslim north Around 250 ethnic groups have co-existed in the country as the multi-religious nation.
