Mehrnews/ Iran backs N-talks agreement by deadline

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association) – Head of Center for Strategic Research Ali Akbar Velayati met with the Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende in Tehran on Saturday to discuss promotion of ties and Iran’s nuclear talks.

Ali Akbar Velayati ,while expressing hope that Mr. Brende’s visit will begin a new chapter in Iran-Norway relations, noted that the Norwegian FM can play an effective role in establishing positive ties between the two countries.

Brende, for his part, expressed eagerness for expansion of ties and added, “it has been more than ten years since my last visit to Iran. I have made this visit now to discuss various issues and resume economic ties with Iran.”

Also, speaking at a press conference on the same day, Velayati pointed to Oman as the hosting country to the trilateral meeting among Iran FM, US secretary of state and Catherine Ashton and said, “our relations with Oman ever since the revolution, during the Imposed War and at present have been always positive, and Oman has always had good intentions toward its relations with Iran.”

In regard to a question on Iran and G5+1 nuclear talks and how some powers try to take more concessions from Iran and in turn, accuse Iran of a defeat in the negotiations, he asserted that the Islamic Republic has never rejected any chance for talks and has always favored negotiations for the resolution of the nuclear issue.

“We want for the talks to resolve as soon as possible, and arrive at an agreement like the one we did in Geneva last year,” he maintained, “but the agreement must meet Iran’s interests.”

Brende also pointed to Iran and G5+1 negotiations and asserted that a comprehensive agreement in the talks can further expand cooperation between Iran and Norway.
