Motto of this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage selected

SHAFAQNA – An official with Iran’s Arbaeen Central Headquarters announced the motto selected for this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage.

Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Ahmadi said that the one chosen out of 31 proposed mottos is “God loves one who loves Imam Hussein (AS)”.

It is based on a Hadith by the holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH), he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmadi called on all of those who intend to take part in the Arbaeen march to follow the rules and help officials in ensuring the security of the pilgrimage.

Arbaeen marks 40 days after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and third Shia Imam.

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias from different countries march toward Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world, including Iran, took part in the mourning ceremonies in Iraqi holy cities marking Arbaeen.

This year, Arbaeen falls on Thursday, November 9.
