SHAFAQNA – In order to bring you, our readers, closer to realities and truths, Shafaqna will conduct a series of exclusive podcast interviews with renown political analysts politicians, officials, religious leaders, and academics.
As always our aim is simple – knowledge.
In a world run, and based on falsehood, Truth has become somewhat of a rare commodity – still, we ought to seek what has been dissimulated as to rise truly free.
As Imam Ali said: “Ask in order to understand, and do not ask in order to find fault, for surely the ignorant man who wants to learn resembles a man of knowledge, and surely a man of knowledge who wants to be difficult resembles an ignorant man who wants to find fault.”
Following is the interview Catherine Shakdam, director of programs for the Shafaqna Institute of Middle Eastern Studies conducted with Yves Pernet, head of the local chapter of the Flemish Popular Movement VVB, which is a pluralistic organisation, in Antwerp.
A father of 2, a proud and devoted Christian, Yves Pernet is also a nationalist – I will ask you here to check your prejudices at the door, and rethink your position on what you think of the nationalist right represents.
I have found that we often believe what we believe on account of what Society made us believe … But how much of what we hold to be true is actually a reflection of reality?
What if we actually got it wrong, and failed to push beyond our bias to realise that those we though were our enemies are NOT.
Nationalism is not the enemy liberals claim it to be. Nationalism is merely the expression of an identity, a history, and a culture.
Maybe we ought to rethink our conversation, and admit that we share in the same values, and aspirations.
