SHAFAQNA – A massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck 77 kilometres (48 miles) northwest of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on 25 Apr 2015, at 0611 GMT, toppling houses, dismantling office blocks and towers, and killing thousands of people. More than two dozen people were also reported killed in neighboring India, China and Bangladesh.
The Government of Nepal is reporting over 1,000 dead; these numbers are expected to increase. There are no figures yet on affected populations. The Government is requesting international assistance.
