SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi answered a question about paying Kaffarah for breaking fast when there is a doubt between the last day of the Month of Ramadhan and the first day of the Month of Shaaban.

Question: What is the Kaffarah for a person who breaks his fast whilst in doubt between the last day of the Month of Ramadhan and Eid?

The Grand Ayatollah Makarem: If is in doubt about the end of Ramadhan or the first day of Shawwal, and breaks his/her fast intentionally, and then it becomes clear that it was Eid, there is no need for Kaffarah.
