SHAFAQNA – This event isn’t actually in Irving, but then neither is the non-existent Shariah court whose rumor went viral and made the Muslim outreach necessary. So on the Irving blog it goes: Several mosques around North Texas will hold open houses Saturday, inviting anyone with questions about Islam to come in and ask.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations’ North Texas chapter is holding its first Open Mosque day at locations in Plano, Richardson and Colleyville. The event is an effort to counter rumors and misinformation about the religion that have spread since Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne began to criticize an Islamic mediation panel, fuelingconspiracy theories that Muslims are plotting to take over U.S. courts.

“Naturally lots of D-FW residents are concerned or have questions about us and we are here to welcome them with open arms,” said Alia Salem, who directs the organization’s North Texas chapter.

Participating mosques:

Islamic Association of Collin County – 6401 Independence Pkwy, Plano, TX 75023 – 11 am to 3 pm

East Plano Islamic Center – 1360 Star Ct, Plano, TX 75074 – 11 am to 3 pm

MAS Islamic Center – 1515 Blake Dr. Richardson, TX 75081 – 6 pm to 8 pm

Islamic Association of Mid-Cities – 500 Cheek-Sparger Rd. Colleyville, Texas 76034 – 11 am to 3 pm
