Observing the crescent moon in eastern countries / the Grand Ayatollah Khamenei’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei answered questions about observing the new moon in eastern countries.

Question: If the (new) moon is observed in an eastern town; is that also the proof of the first day of the month for all the western towns? Or does it depend on the distance between the two towns? And if for example a person observes the (new) moon in Japan which is one of the most easterly countries; is that the proof for the beginning of the month for the whole world?

The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei: Alignment of horizon is a condition of observing the new moon; and alignment of horizon means the towns and/or countries which probable observance and non-observance of the crescent moon are the same in them, and it is up to the adult person to distinguish that.
