Official: Iran nuclear capability irreversible

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- Senior Iranian nuclear negotiator Majid Takht-e Ravanchi said Iran’s nuclear capabilities can not be reversed.

In an interview with Germany’s Spiegel Online, he said no one could take the time back to 2005 and raise the same issues they focused on then.

He said the present phase of talks with G5+1 was sensitive because not much time is left till November 24 deadline.

At least impartial observers will not accuse Iran of anything if talks fail to conclude in desired results by November 24, he said.

As for obstacles to achieving desired results out of the talks, the official who serves as deputy foreign minister for Euro-American affairs noted that Iran’s enrichment capacities as well as anti-Iran sanctions are among the main concerns.

He said Iran believed Americans would not easily acknowledge Iran’s nuclear advancements.

Pointing out that Iran possessed about 20 thousand centrifuges, he said only half of the number is being used for producing nuclear material.

He said Iran is insisting on maintaining its present nuclear status and wants to be treated like any other member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Elsewhere in the interview, Takht-e Ravanchi stated that Iran did not enter the talks because of economic sanctions against the country but to show the world that it has nothing to hide.

Explaining the reasons for Iran’s economic cooperation with such countries as China, Russia and India, the foreign ministry official said “Europe and America are not the whole world. When a country decides not to have any ties with Iran, this certainly does not mean that it is the end.”

Stressing that there are many other ways for Iran out of sanctions than Europe and America, he noted that managers of many European economic agencies keep contacting with Iranian officials to explore existing investment opportunities.

This, he believed, indicated that sanctions are not to last long and that flames of Iranophobia are dying away.

Commenting on the joint political interests shared by Iran and the West in confronting the so-called Islamic State, he said the most important thing about the issue is to come to the point that this particular phenomenon is a threat to all, being it Europe or the US.
