Official Says Malaysia Committed to Promoting Quranic Activities

SHAFAQNA – He said this was reflected through the government’s policies and programs to empower a Quranic society which includes organizing Recitation and Memorization of the Quran Ceremony.

“Many efforts had been done by the government to create a Quranic society including formulating relevant policies and translating it into action. This is not merely rhetoric.

“The Muslim population in Malaysia may be little compared to our neighboring countries but our contributions (for the Islamic affairs) are not little.

“The implementation to create a Quranic society is not only done at federal level but also state level.

“We have many Islamic education centers such as tahfiz (Quran memorization) institutions, which is our continuous efforts to form a society that loves and understands Quran and hadith,” he said at the National Recitation and Memorization of the Quran Closing Ceremony at Putrajaya Islamic Complex, in Putra Jaya, on Friday night.

Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said among others approaches taken to encourage Muslims in Malaysia to love Al-Quran is by developing a digital Al-Quran where its text and translations had been screened and validated.

“The ministry, through Al-Quran certified by Al-Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board, realize that in today’s technology and situation, we not only we need the printed Al-Quran but it also needs to be digitalized.

“The Al-Quran can be digitalized but its text should not be misinterpreted. That’s why we developed a digital Al-Quran where its translation and interpretation had been checked and verified.

“We also urge the publishers (of Al-Quran and digital Al-Quran) to use the right platform to keep the authenticity of the Al-Quran,” he said.

Present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom; Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha.

At the event, Zahid launched the Smart Quran applications which was developed by the ministry, Jakim and Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Quran Smart is the first digital Al-Quran certified by Al-Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board, aimed to combat the spread of various digital Al-Quran which are not approved and certified by the authorities in the country.

Among the features of the Smart Quran includes its text based on Resam Uthmani which is certified by the ministry; its English and Bahasa Melayu translation is based on interpretation issued by Jakim; and the audio of recitation is delivered by famous international reciter’s namely Syeikh Abdullah Basfar; Syeikh Ali Huzaifi; Syeikh Ibrahim Akhdar and Syeikh Muhammad Ayyub.

The apps can be downloaded via Goole Play Store and Apple App Store.
