Performing Tawaaf outside the limits of Maqaam Ibrahim (AS) / the Grand Ayatollah Shobairi’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi Zanjani answered questions about performing Tawaaf outside the limits of Maqaam Ibrahim (AS).

Question: Can pilgrims perform Tawaaf outside Maqaam Ibrahim (AS)? How about performing Tawaaf in a newly erected half floor?

The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi: 1) In busy times, if all the pilgrims want to perform Tawaaf within the limits, is either not possible, or it is carried out with hardship. It is not necessary to perform Tawaaf within the limits; rather pilgrims can perform Tawaaf at further distance, even when performing Tawaaf is not difficult within limits. 2) In busy times, as has been mentioned, there is no problem to perform Tawaaf in half floor which is not higher than Kaaba, but Tawaaf’s Salaat must be performed in a place where Maqaam Ibrahim (AS) is between the person who is performing Salaat and Kaaba.
