Photos: Ashura mournings processions, recall the arrival of Imam al-Hussayn (P) to Karbala

SHAFAQNA- Alkafeel:Since Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) went out from the city of his grandfather (Allah’s prayers be upon him and his holy Household) until he arrived to Karbala, he passes through many villages along the way, but he has chosen Karbala [land of At-Taf] to install his tents, and it was on the second day of the sacred month of Muharram of the year 61 AH. And to commemorate this anniversary and in continuation of the rituals of Ashura condolences launched since the eve of the first of Muharram, the condolences processions start their march to proclaim through it their allegiance to the Messenger of Allah and Ahl Al-Bayt (Allah’s prayers be upon all of them) and their condolences to the Messenger of Allah (Allah’s prayers be upon him and his holy Household) and to the Owner of the Order and the Time; Imam Al-Hujjah (may Allah hasten his holy reappearance) on the occasion of the martyrdom of the Master of the youth of Paradise, who has drawn with his own pure blood the path of freedom and dignity, and put the foundations and the bases of Ashura school and built around it a great fence to secure it against any fall.

The people of Karbala and through their processions commemorate the tragedy in several ways, including lighting the lamps of the Takaya (as if they are welcoming the arrival of Imam al-Hussayn on such day), or through the Karbala mourning processions (Latm, Zinjeel [lamentation through beating the chests either with hands or with Zinjee]l, and Tashabeeh [members of processions wear special cloth acting like if they were one of the members of Imam al-Hussayn family or companions, echoing their words), in addition to the councils of preaching and guidance.

The holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and of his brother Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them) welcomed the mourners and many processions according to a time and place schedule prepared by the Department of Rituals and Hussayni Processions of the two holy shrines. The condolences’ processions carry flags and banners on which message slogans are written, representing the truthful and integrated call for the guidance and following the principles of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) that are based on the sacrifice, altruism and fighting the oppression, injustice and tyranny.

It is noteworthy that the holy month of Muharram includes many rites and rituals that embody the sad tragedy of Imam al-Hussayn and his family (peace be upon him), including: allocating the first days and nights of the holy month of Muharram and naming them after the names of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and the great symbols of the timeless incident of At-Taf from the companions of the Imam (peace be upon them), who gave their lives for the sake of Allah and in support to Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him). Every day is dedicated to a personality or specific event to highlight its specificity in the tragedy of at-Taf, although the Imam and all his family and companions were killed on the tenth of Muharram.
