SHAFAQNA- ISNA: Hawizeh Marshes are the permanent marshes located between Iran-Iraq Border fed by Iran’s Karkheh River and Iraq’s Tigris River and their bifurcations.

The marshes are 450 thousand hectares in extent in which a third of them are located in Iran. The extent of Hawizeh Marshes, which are the home of migratory birds such as little cormorants and snipes in winter, have been decreased in recent years due to water shortage and making embankments.
