‘If they stay on the mountain, they will die of starvation and thirst,’ the IS fighter warns. ‘This talk about aid from Western and crusader countries is all lies. If they convert, we will give them everything they need. They will live a happy life.’

‘Right now you are infidels. After this, you will become Muslims and you will have rights’: The moment hundreds of Yazidis converted en masse to Islam to avoid ISIS execution

They claim they are misunderstood – despite group executing hundreds

Cowed into submission by murderous thugs, Yazidis who survived the Isis’ killing sprees are converted to Islam in a propaganda video published online.

The chilling clip shows members of the persecuted Kurdish sect hugging Isis militants, moments after passing a truck mounted with an anti-aircraft weapon.

Hundreds are seen kneeling on the floor of what appears to be a school adorned with the terrorist group’s black flag.

IS fighters have been accused of executing and butchering hundreds of Yazidis after driving them from their homes in a brutal offensive that is said to have seen women and girls taken captive as slaves.

Tens of thousands fled to the Sinjar mountains – triggering a massive humanitarian operation as well as US air strikes – after being told to convert to Islam or face death.

The Yazidis, part of the country’s Kurdish minority who follow an ancient religion derived from Zoroastrianism, have paid the highest price for IS’s dramatic advance through Iraq.

The group’s black flag has been hoisted in every town the militants have captured since it arrived from Syria in June, and swept through the north almost wholly unopposed by the  country’s army.

In their latest video, titled ‘Hundreds of Yazidis convert to Islam’, the militants provide no acknowledgement of the bloodshed that prompted the mass conversion – saying instead that IS fighters are misunderstood.

Two of the extremists – one a bearded middle-aged man dressed in black with an AK-47 assault rifle, and another in a crisp grey military uniform and camouflage cap – field questions in Arabic on the video from what appears to be an IS interviewer.

What has been said is the opposite of reality,’ the older man says.

He adds that IS has provided the Yazidis with everything they need.

‘Men, women and children have converted and I was with them, and they are happy with their conversions,’ he says, adding: ‘We advise the Yazidis to come down from the mountain and convert.’

This was a reference to Sinjar, where thousands who feared death at the hands of the militants took refuge, risking death by dehydration instead of murder at the hands of jihadists.

Some 5,000 remain stranded  there despite daytime temperatures approaching 50C.

‘If they stay on the mountain, they will die of starvation and thirst,’ the IS fighter warns. ‘This talk about aid from Western and crusader countries is all lies. If they convert, we will give them everything they need. They will live a happy life.’

It was reported on Sunday that another 300 Yazidi men from the mountain area had been killed by Isis, with some beheaded in front of their families. This came a day after IS killed 82 others who refused to convert to Islam.

The latest piece of propaganda follows the release of the video of US journalist Mr Foley’s murder, which sent shockwaves around the world on Tuesday night.

The latest clip has provoked a stunned reaction over the footage’s quality and slick editing. While previous Isis videos have used grainy and chaotic camcorder footage, newer IS films boast comparatively high production values.

The makers of the James Foley video used multiple cameras and professional microphones, for example. They also included graphics and visual effects, and used editing tools to intersperse film of Mr Foley with rolling news footage.
