Premier: French jets land in Jordan to join anti-ISIL battle

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- A number of French fighter jets have arrived in Jordan to join the so-called campaign against ISIL terrorists operating in Iraq, France’s prime minister says.

“Since a few hours ago, our Mirages (fighter jets) have been positioned…in Amman (the capital of Jordan),” Manuel Valls said during his speech at a French airbase in the Nigerien capital, Niamey, on Sunday.

The remarks came four days after French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian announced that six Mirage fighter jets would be deployed to Jordan to fight ISIL Takfiri militants in Iraq.

France has already deployed nine Rafale fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates.

French participation in the US-led coalition against ISIL in Iraq reportedly involves training programs, some 700 troops, and arms deliveries for the Iraqi military forces and Kurdish Peshmerga fighters.

The ISIL terrorists currently control swaths of territory across Iraq and Syria, where they have been committing heinous crimes.

Since late September, the US, along with some of its Arab allies, has been conducting airstrikes against the ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate. The US had already begun an aerial bombing campaign against the Takfiri terrorists in Iraq in August.

This is while many of the countries joining the US-led bombing coalition, such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, have been staunch supporters of the Takfiri ISIL elements in their fight against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve recently said the number of French nationals leaving the European country to join the ISIL militant group in Syria and Iraq shows an 82 percent rise in 2014, almost doubling since the beginning of the year.
