SHAFAQNA – The deadly suicide attack that claimed lives of scores of people at Pakistan’s Wagah-Attari border alarmed security forces of more similar terror attacks targeting Ashura processions.
Pakistan government increased security measures at all Shia mosques and routes of Ashura processions deploying thousands of security officials, installing walkthrough gates and security cameras. But despite such terror threats Shia mourners turned out in their thousands into the processions. They said such terror threats can never stop them from taking part in Ashura mourning ceremonies. A big number of women and children also attended the processions. They also expressed their sorrow over the loss of lives in the suicide blast, but stressed that their loyalty to Imam Hussein cannot be shattered by such attacks. The 10th of Muharram was marked with Ashura processions by which people pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala. Though there have been increased threats of terror attacks targeting Ashura processions; this has not shaken the mourners from marking the 10th of Muharram as day of remembrance of Imam Hussain, who embraced martyrdom in the battle of Karbala
