Shia mourners commemorate martyrdom anniv. of Imam Hussein

SHAFAQNA – Shia Muslims around the world have been holding mourning ceremonies to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad.
Millions have been attending processions in different cities across Iran and other countries. The third Shia Imam, along with his 72 companions, was martyred in the Battle of Karbala some fourteen-hundred years ago. The tragedy took place in what is modern-day Iraq. Every year, Muslims around the world mark the climax of the ceremonies known as Ashura, which is the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram.
