SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani says Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries can reach an all-encompassing agreement before a November 24 deadline set for the talks between the two sides.
“If the nuclear negotiating sides have serious determination, we can reach a comprehensive agreement in all fields in the remaining time,” President Rouhani said in a Sunday meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende in Tehran.
Rouhani described the bans against the Iranian nation as unacceptable and incorrect and added, “Sanctions are not beneficial to anybody.”
The Iranian president stated that the Islamic Republic is serious in its negotiations with the P5+1 and has always been “very transparent” on nuclear issues.
“Our [nuclear] activities are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and within the framework of the NPT [Non-Proliferation Treaty],” Rouhani pointed out, expressing hope that Iran and the six countries would achieve a win-win result in the nuclear talks which would be beneficial to both sides.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Russia, China, France, Britain and the US — plus Germany will open a new round of talks about Tehran’s nuclear energy program in the Omani capital, Muscat, on November 11.
The two sides are in talks to work out a final deal aimed at ending the longstanding standoff over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear energy program before November 24.
Sources close to the Iranian negotiating team say the main stumbling block in the way of resolving the Western dispute over Iran’s nuclear energy program remains to be the removal of all the bans imposed on the country, and not the number of centrifuges or the level of uranium enrichment.
Tehran wants the sanctions entirely lifted while Washington, under pressure from the pro-Israeli lobby, insists that at least the UN-imposed sanctions should remain in place.
Brende, for his part, expressed his country’s willingness for broad cooperation with Iran, saying big Norwegian firms are prepared to resume their activities in Iran as soon as possible.
The Norwegian minister added that Iran plays a key role in the region, saying that Oslo believes Tehran enjoys great potential to establish regional security and stability.
