SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- A former British far-right group member has denounced the group’s anti-Islam message and apologized to the Muslim community, Press TV reports.
Former member of British nationalist party Britain First, Matthew Lester, visited a local mosque in Crawford to issue his apology.
“All I want is all of us to stand together and do what is right and come under one common cause, they don’t. They have had the chances for unity, they said no. The fact that it was more about publicity stunts and getting attention rather than getting stuff done,” said Lester to the Press TV correspondent in London.
“I went in there and took my shoes and hat off and they said Allah knows what’s in your heart and we can tell by the way you came down here and apologized,” he said in a tweeter post.
The 25-year-old had joined the Britain First group six months ago. The group describes itself as “a patriotic political party and street defence organization,” and has a vigilante wing called the “Britain First Defence Force”.
The group organizes protests outside Muslims’ homes, as well as “Christian patrols” and “invasions” of British mosques.
Over the last few months, members of Britain First party stormed several mosques in London, Bradford, and Glasgow and handed out Christian leaflets and Bibles.
