SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- At least six people have been killed in a US assassination drone strike in Afghanistan’s eastern Nuristan Province along the Pakistani border.
Afghan security officials said the airstrike was carried out in Nuristan’s Kamdish district, earlier on Sunday.
Afghan army spokesman Haroon Yousufzai said the attack targeted Taliban militants in the Chenar Khor area.
Taliban militants have not yet commented on the incident.
This comes a day after the militants launched an attack on an Afghan National Army (ANA) military base in Kamdish district. At least 22 militants and two Afghan soldiers were killed in clashes between the two sides.
The US-led forces have increased their air raids against civilian areas in Afghanistan in recent months.
The United States regularly uses drones for assassination strikes and spying missions in Afghanistan, as well as in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal belt near the Afghan border.
Washington claims the targets of the drone attacks are militants, but local officials and witnesses maintain that civilians have been the main victims of such raids over the past few years.
