SHAFAQNA – Despite Israeli claims about rising tensions between Iran and Russia in Syria, the Presidents of these two nations talked about their successful cooperation in Syrian conflict.
President Vladimir Putin noted specific results of the cooperation between Russia and Iran in settling the Syrian conflict as he spoke with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Saturday, ISNA reports.
“We are successfully cooperating in settling the Syrian crisis,” Putin said in Qingdao, China.
“In this regard, we have something to talk about because specific results have been achieved,” he added.
For his part, Dr. Rouhani said that the Iran-Russia cooperation “on the battlefield in the fight against terrorism and various radical groups proved to be quite successful,” RT reports.
He added that the results of the interaction in matters of security and stability in the region “are being felt stronger every day”.
According to The Times of Israel Russia and Iran have staunchly backed Syrian President Bashar Assad, helping turn the tide of war in his favor.
Dr. Rouhani also said that Tehran and Moscow must establish tighter dialogue regarding the United States’ unilateral pullout from the international nuclear deal. He told the Russian president that the US exit from the nuclear agreement with Iran warrants an “important and serious discussion between our two countries”.
This meeting is taken place in a time when Israeli and western medias claim there are tensions between Iran and Russia after a Russian move causes friction with Iran-backed forces in Syria.
According to Telegraph, Israel is increasingly optimistic of being able to force Iran out of Syria as Russia comes to see that Iran’s presence may threaten its own interests.
But the Russian Sputnik News reported that Hezbollah and Iran won’t leave Syria until it’s liberated.
China opened Saturday a two-day regional security summit attended by Russia, Iran and other allies confronting rising tensions with the US over trade and Washington’s withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal.
