SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Vahid Khorasani answered a question about receiving gifts because of governmental positions.
Question: What is the ruling about using gifts which are given due to governmental positions, and job positions such as consultants, contractors, and similar cases; and does it make a difference if the gift is insignificant (such as calendars, greeting cards, chocolates, etc.)?
The Grand Ayatollah Vahid Khorasani: If the gift is to entice, or make the receiver of the gift to act against the law, or religious law, for example to abuse other’s rights, it is not allowed. And if it is to facilitate a case for the giver of the gift, it is against religious morality; and if it is for encouraging the subordinates, then there is no problem.
