Seven-time Formula One Champion Michael Schumacher is being treated by a team of 15 medics at a specially-built clinic inside his Swiss mansion, while his 15-year-old son was crowned a world karting vice-champion.

After the successful race, Schumacher Junior told reporters that he wants to follow his father’s career and become a Formula One world champion in future.

“Of course I am proud of such an important result, but it is also clear that it is my goal to be world champion… This is only the beginning of my career,” Mick Schumacher said as quoted by the ESPN.

Schumacher’s son currently competes under the name Mick Junior, and previously he used his mother’s surname Betsch, not to attract unnecessary attention because of his father’s popularity.

Michael Schumacher suffered a severe head injury while skiing in the French resort of Meribel in December 2013. He underwent brain surgery at a Grenoble clinic in France and was then put in a medically induced coma.

He spent 254 days at the Grenoble clinic and at a rehabilitation clinic in Lausanne in Switzerland after being released from hospital two weeks ago as his health condition improved.

Michael Schumacher is widely referred to as one of the greatest racing drivers of all times.

He holds many Formula One driver records, including the largest number of fastest laps, pole positions and most races won in a single season – 13 races in 2004.

Schumacher won a total of 91 races, and got 155 podium finishes, more than any other Formula One driver.

The statement on the official Formula One website says that Schumacher is “statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen.”
