Security threat to Obama neutralized: Car found, suspect taken into custody

SHAFAQNA –  Authorities say that a vehicle operated by a person who may have threatened President Obama has been found and the person in question was taken into custody late Friday night in Hamden, Connecticut, NBC Connecticut reports.

According to The Christian Science Monitor, the Secret Service asked Connecticut state and local police for assistance earlier on Friday in locating a blue 2014 VW Jetta. The individual was described as “a potentially suspicious person and vehicle.”

Following the individual’s arrest, the Secret Service released the following statement:

“We have taken all appropriate investigative steps in this matter, based on the information we received yesterday about a suspicious vehicle and person,” said Nicole Mainor, Public Affairs Staff Assistant for Secret Service, according to NBC Connecticut. “There have been no arrests or charges brought in this case at this point.”

Citing Ronald Kessler, writer of “In the President’s Secret Service,” The Christian Science Monitor points out that President Obama receives approximately 30 death threats per day.
