SHAFAQNA – Four former members of a Serbian paramilitary group killed a compatriot before eating parts of his body, a court was told yesterday. Milan Jurisic, 40, was beaten to death with hammers before the gang, who were members the Tigers of Arkan, allegedly used an industrial mincer to cut up his body. Then they ate parts of his body before dumping the remains in the Manzanares river in Madrid, a court heard.
Luka Bojovic, Vladimir Milisavljevic, Vladimir Mijanovic and Sinisa Petric went on trial in Madrid accused of murder, membership of a criminal organisation and possession of illegal weapons. All deny the charges.
The court heard Jurisic was allegedly murdered in 2009 but his remains were not recovered until 2012 when police arrested the defendants in Valencia after a tip off. They had been on the run in Spain for years since leaving Serbia.
When police arrested the gang, they found €500,000 in cash, three assault rifles, 9 semi-automatic pistols, a shot gun and ammunition. If convicted, the four face up to 30 years in jail.
The Tigers of Arkan conducted murderous ethnic-cleansing campaigns in the Balkans during the early 90s.
