Syrian Official : US failed to topple Syria government

SHAFAQNA – Syria’s deputy foreign minister says the US and its allies attempted to topple the Syrian government and change the region’s map but the Syrian nation foiled their plots.

Many of the countries sponsoring terrorists, including the US, France, the UK and certain regional countries like Saudi Arabia, attempted to topple the Syrian government and change the region’s map, but the Syrian nation did not allow that, Faisal al-Miqdad said in an interview with the IRIB on Thursday night.

He said that Syria has resisted terrorists and managed to make gains against them.

The Syrian official said that 90 percent of Takfiri groups have been created by the UK during the past decade with the aim of fomenting fratricide and division.

The Saudi regime and Persian Gulf littoral states spent billions of dollars to contribute to the collapse of the Syrian government but failed, Miqdad added.

The Syrian diplomat referred to the aerial attacks by the US-led coalition against alleged ISIL positions and described the raids as theatrical, saying Syrian fighter jets are pounding the terrorists fifty times a day.

Miqdad said that Syria could exterminate terrorists in a month if foreign sides stopped their support for them.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fueled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 200,000 people, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.
