SHAFAQNA - Prominent Muslim scholar and academic, Tariq Ramadan, addressed “manipulated Sufism” in a strongly worded Facebook post yesterday.

Ramadan, who is the grandson of Hassan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, posted the following statement yesterday on Facebook:

“The authentic Sufi path is an elevation towards the liberation of the self, empowerment, inner peace and the word of goodness and justice. It can never be this false speech, manipulated, which speaks about the heart’s greatness, claims to be apolitical and supports the worst regimes and dictators who condemn their opponents to death, torture and imprisonment under the worst conditions .

These “Sûfî”, “Shuyûkh,” “‘ulamâ’, like those we found leading the” World Union of Sufi Scholars’, such as ‘Shaykh’ Ali Gum’a (former Mufti of Egypt who endorsed the killing of civilians) to his student “shaykh” Usama (personal advisor to the despot al-Sisi) via the soft mystical Habib ‘Ali al-Jifri (“Sûfî” spokesperson for the UAE’s political delusions) … all of them instrumentalize both Islam and Sufism for political ends and personal interest, while claiming they do not involve in politics and are free.

There is Sufism, and then there’s their Sufism, a Sufism of traitors and sold out individuals.

It would be good for those who follow them to eventually wake up. Unless they want to engage in a blinded spiritual education which would be a kind of “mystic of betrayal.”

They should remember though, and fear, the prayers of the jailed innocent people, the oppressed in Palestine and throughout the world… as “between the prayer of (women and men) unfairly treated and God, there is no veil (which prevents this prayer from reaching God)”.
