The biggest cat breed in North America

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association) – In today’s Love Your Pet, Dr. Richard Fujie from the King Street Pet Hospital shared more about the breed of Maine Coon cats, and brought in one to show us why this is the biggest cat breed in North America.

This is Knight, who weights 22 lbs. and still growing! He is one of the top cats in the Cat Fancier’s Association in Hawaii. He will be at the next CFA cat show at the McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Park, Valentine’s Day, Saturday February 14, from 10 am to 3 pm.

The Maine Coon is the official state cat of Maine and there are different stories of their origin, including a myth that the cat is so large because it’s descended from raccoon (which is genetically impossible.) One of the oldest breeds in North America, it’s also a very popular breed worldwide.

They’re known as gentle giants: sweet, playful, smart, easy to train, relaxed cats, with a lion mane-like coat and a furry tail. Despite the amount of fur, they require minimal grooming and are easy to maintain.

If you’d like to see a Maine Coon cat, or even meet the one we featured on air, check out the Cat Fancier’s Association cat show at the McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Park, Valentine’s Day, Saturday February 14, from 10 am to 3 pm.
