SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – In a meeting with Sunni scholars from Indonesia today in Qom, the Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said: The reality is that today there is a good opportunity for the progress in the Islamic world. He added: People of the world are tired of the materialistic thoughts and seeking for refuge and apart from Islam there is no such refuge, if we use this opportunity correctly, Islam will be the religion of the world in the future.

The Grand Ayatollah pointed to ways of reaching the target and said: Preserving the unity amongst Muslims and prevention of disputes from appearing is the first and the most important step; insisting on common values is also very important. He added that: In the next step, Islamic extremism in all Islamic denominations must be prevented because this will cause religious wars. He said the bloodsheds in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and other Islamic countries are the results of religious extremism and explained that: Islam is the religion of kindness, unity and mercy, therefore violence by Muslims is unacceptable.

The Grand Ayatollah stressed: In the holy Quran kind behaviours towards non-Muslims who do not wish to fight or bother Muslims are advised. He continued: Takfiris neither formed a government nor they are Islamic, their aim is to portray Islam as violent and frighten the people of the world. In his final remarks, the Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said: If Islamic scholars disunite then the enemy will sow discord amongst Muslims, therefore such meetings are necessary to neutralize the plots by our enemies and will resolve problems.
