The Grand Ayatollah Makarem’s answers about Khoms for fruits on trees and cutting trees

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi answered questions about trees.

Question: Is Khoms payable each year for fruits on trees?

The Grand Ayatollah Makarem: If the fruits are ready for sale, calculate their Khoms; otherwise they will not be counted as income of this year.

Question: What is the ruling for immethodical cutting trees which are the main source of oxygen, and are for continuation of humans’ lives on the earth; and cutting them will lead to transfer of jungles to dry lands?

The Grand Ayatollah makarem: a) Trees are God’s gifts and using them depends on the permission from the Islamic government. b) Any act which harms Muslims in short or long term, is not allowed; and in this regard that there is a strong connection between humans and the environment, Muslims must aware and careful.
