The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi’s answers to questions about prescribing medicines containing alcohol

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi Zanjani answered to a question about prescribing medicines which contain alcohol.

Question: Is it allowed to use some malt drinks which are prescribed by doctors for kidney stones and other similar products which contain a small percentage of alcohol in them? What is the ruling regarding buying and selling these?

The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi: If there is an intoxicant substance in it, even if it does not cause intoxication, is unclean (Najis) and the use of it in non-essential case is Haram. Buying and selling it as medicine when socially is non-essential, is not allowed.
