The importance of work and effort in Islam

SHAFAQNA – The value of work and effort is explained and stressed in various holy verses of the Quran and the narrations. For example Ayahs 39 and 40 of Surah Al-Najm say: That every person receives only what he/she makes an effort for; so his/her efforts shall be noticed. In this regard, Imam Ali (AS) said: The measure of a person is equal to his/her efforts [1].
Also Imam Baqer (AS) said: Having high aspiration and a lofty purpose is a great honour; no honour is like having a high aspiration [2]. On the other hand, laziness and impatience are totally rejected and disapproved in Islam. Imam Ali (AS) said: The one who is continuously lazy, does not reach his/her wishes [3]. Imam Baqer (AS) said: Avoid laziness and impatience because these two characteristics stop you to benefit from this world and the hereafter [4].
