The main point of Ayah 11 of Sural Ar-Ra’ad

SHAFAQNA – Abu Khalid Kabuli narrated: I heard from Imam Sajjad (AS) who always used to say: There are five sins which change Divine Blessings, and they are:

  1. Oppressing people
  2. Abandoning good deeds
  3. Abandoning what is known as good sense or Sharia
  4. Being ungrateful for all the blessings (opposite to giving thanks)
  5. Not giving thanks for receiving the blessings

Then, Imam Sajjad (AS) continued by reciting middle part of Ayah 11 of Surah Ar-Raad which said: “Allah (SWT) does not change a people’s situation unless they change what they have in themselves.” Meaning, those above-mentioned sins need to be avoided, and if people change and correct their bad deeds, bad behaviours and inappropriate thoughts, they will be rewarded with blessings; otherwise there is no way of avoiding God’s punishment [1].
