The main points of Ayahs 1 to 3 of Surah Al-Ma’arij

SHAFAQNA – On the Day of Ghadeer Khom when the sermon and the speech of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) finished, a man by the name of “Jaber ibn Nadhr” or as some others mentioned by the name of “Harith bin No’maan” came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: O’ Mohammad (PBUH), you ordered us to witness to the uniqueness of God, and your prophethood, and you ordered us to perform Salaat, Hajj, do fast, and pay Zakat; we accepted all of that. But you have not stopped at these and today you have appointed your cousin over us and preferred him to all of us and you said: “If I am your Mowla (leader of Ummah), Ali (AS) is your Mowla.” What you have told us; is it from God or your own wish? The Prophet (PBUH) replied: Swear to the Allah (SWT) who is the only God to be worshipped, whatever I said was the order of God.

That man became upset and turned his back to the Prophet (PBUH) and went towards  his camel to ride it and was talking to God saying: O’ God, if what Mohammad (PBUH) saying is the truth, order from the sky a stone or torment to hit us. He said this sentence and was preparing to ride his camel that suddenly a stone came from the sky and hit him on the head and entered his body and came out from the other end and he was killed. And then Ayahs 1-3 of Surah Al-Ma’arij were sent down saying: “A questioner (sceptic) asked Allah (SWT) for a torment to befall and it is bound to happen; to the unbelievers which there will be no defense against it.” [1].
