The Supreme Religious Authority: How can we keep our pledge to Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him)?

SHAFAQNA- Alkafeel: The Supreme Religious Authority has shown that, as prayer and fasting are fruitful in this world and in the hereafter, when they are performed in the correct way, the Ziyarat has also great fruits, if we can reach the qualities and characteristics requested during the Ziyarat, including preserving the principles of the Hussayni revolution that will lead us to paradise.
These were the important points stated in the second sermon of Friday prayers held in the holy shrine of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) on Friday the 16th of Safar 1440 AH corresponding to October 26, 2018, and which was led by his eminence Sheikh Abd al-Mahdi al-Karbala’i, in which he stated:
Dear brothers and sisters, We have said previously that among the important purposes in the march and Ziyarat of Arba’een is to renew the covenant, pledge and loyalty to the Imam (peace be upon him), which means that I will try my best to preserve the reform movement of the Imam (peace be upon him) whatever the sacrifices will be. This is our covenant and most importantly is that we keep it.
But how can we keep our pledge to Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him)?
Brethren, there is a narration that says: “Many persons get nothing out of their fasts but hunger and thirst, many more get nothing out of their night prayers but exertions and sleepless nights…” This narration is alarming that many of the worship acts are not accepted without certain conditions. The prayer is the pillar of the religion, but do we perform it with pious hearts?
Also the Ziyarat has great rewards and fruits, if we can reach the qualities and characteristics requested during the Ziyarat, including preserving the principles of the Hussayni revolution that will lead us to paradise. The paradise is not gained without that spirit and soul reach the essence of belief.
In order to reach this utmost honor of performing correctly the Ziyarat of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), we need to respect the following important matters:
1- To understand the true meanings of the Ziyarat.
2- To emotionally, spiritually and heartedly interact with the Ziyarat.
3- To have a sincere loyalty to Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and genuine disassociation to their enemies.
4- To reach the level of being aware that the Imam is our role model, following his ethics, principles, and positions to preserve Islam.

This last point leads us to talk about the five levels of knowledge that are mentioned in the Ziyarat Arba’een text:
– Level of knowledge of the Imam (peace be upon him).
– Level of the love, recognition of the status and position of the Imam (peace be upon him).
– Level of loyalty to Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and the disassociation from their enemies.
– Level of following him and surrendering to Him.
– Level of supporting him and offering sacrifices for his sake.
First: Level of the knowledge of the Imam (peace be upon him): We have to be aware that the knowledge of the Imam and the knowledge of his right, are two different things. The narration stated: “He who visits him knowing his right, will enter to paradise.” So knowing the right of the Imam has a wider meaning.
The Ziyarat Arba’een text explains these levels, and highlights the majesty of the Imam’s status, the summit of the morals and qualities of the Imam and his supreme relationship with the Almighty Allah. The Ziyarat starts by: “Peace be upon the intimate servant of Allah and His most-beloved. Peace be upon the friend of Allah and His elite. Peace be upon the choice of Allah and son of His choice.” So we must remember that these are the qualities that gave the Imam the greatest status by the Almighty.
This status made them perform their task in the best way to convey the divine message, therefore we can read in the Ziyarat text: “You made him one of the chiefs, one of the leaders, and one of the defenders (of Your religion), gave him the inheritances of the Prophets, and chose him as argument against Your created beings and one of the Prophets’ successors. So, he called to you flawlessly, gave advices, and sacrificed his soul for You to save Your servants from ignorance and perplexity of straying off.” So, the infallible imams performed this task for us in order to save us from the confusion of ignorance and misguidance. Thus, whenever I am reading these words, I have to remember these meanings.
This knowledge is not enough, we must interact with the heart, the reason and the soul in order to reach the sincere love to the Imam (peace be upon him) without letting any single space to loving his enemies. This is the precise and conscious knowledge that fill the heart with the love of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) and the total hatred and disassociation from his enemies. as it is stated in the Ziyarat: “Yet, those whom were seduced by this worldly life, who sold their share (of reward) with the lowliest and meanest, retailed their Hereafter with the cheapest price, acted haughtily, perished because of following their desires, brought to themselves Your wrath and the wrath of Your Prophet, and obeyed the dissident and hypocritical servants of You and the bearers of the burdens (of sins) who deserve Hellfire—all those supported each other against him… So, O Allah, pour heavy curses on them and chastise them with painful chastisement.”
The other knowledge is stated in the following part of the Ziyarat: “O Allah, I do ask You to witness for me that I am loyalist to those who are loyalists to him and enemy of those who are enemies of him.” The true meaning of being loyal to the Imam is to follow his approach in all sides of the life, and avoid anything that comes from his enemies.
The level of surrendering to the Imam (peace be upon him) comes in this part of the Ziyarat: “I also bear witness that I believe in you all and in your Return, I have full confidence in the laws of my religion and in the seals of my deeds, my heart is at peace with you all, all my affairs are based on your commands.” As we should be submissive to the will of the Imam in all circumstances and times.
The Ziyarat continues by highlighting the level of the willingness to support the Imam and to sacrifice for his sake: “and my support for you all is already all set until Allah permits you.” Once we reach the level of the knowledge of the Imam, of his love and recognition of his status, of the sincere loyalty to him and the disassociation of his enemies, and of surrendering to him. We must be ready to sacrifice all that we have for the sake of his matter. And with this level, one can try to follow the example of the companions of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him).
Therefore, when you come to perform the Ziyarat of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), you have to remember all your journey these levels of knowledge until you complete you rituals and go back to your houses safe and sound. In this way, my journey to the Ziyarat of the Imam will be a changing point in my life, and I will return a better person to my family. And my duty will be to preserve this state of mind in my daily life.
We ask the Almighty Allah to help us to be among those who fulfill their covenant to the Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him). And the last of our prayers is praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and Allah’s prayers and peace be upon Mohammad and upon his pure and virtuous lineage.
