Two methods of fasting in areas without Sahar, Maghrib, and Dhuhr / the Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadeq Rouhani’s answer

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadeq Rouhani answered a question about fasting in areas without Sahar, Maghrib, and Dhuhr.

Question: What is the ruling about fasting in areas without Sahar, Maghrib, and Dhur?

The Grand Ayatollah Rouhani: They can do these two ways:

  • the times for Salaat and fasting to be tuned with temperate areas which are near the place they live in or used to live in there, for example whenever they realized that it is Dhuhr in that place, perform Dhur and Asr Salaats, and other Salaats likewise; and whenever Ramadhan is declared in that place, they do fast as well, and this is easy by today’s devices such as radio and television.
  • They can choose temperate areas as their criteria (standard, basis) without considering the nearest place to that area, and they are free to choose the temperate area, they can set their criteria with Iraq, or Iran, or Hijaz, or similar to these.
