Two people, the same tribulations – Islam and Judaism face similar prejudices

SHAFAQNA – Amid the rise of Islamophobia in both Europe and North America, one Muslim scholar has said to be determined to expose racism, bigotry and sectarianism for what they truly are: the many faces of evil.

To better support her argument, Dr Mehnaz M. Afridi has linked the Holocaust and Islamophobia, comparing people’s hatred of the Jews and Muslims as the manifestation of one broad social disease.

An assistant professor of religion at Manhattan College, she teaches courses about both Islam and the Holocaust, and she is director of the college’s Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Education Center. Her book “Shoah Through Muslim Eyes,” referring to an alternative term for the Holocaust, will be published in July, and she is a member of the ethics and religion committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
