SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi answered questions about inappropriate music.
Question: Are all kinds of music the object of the narration/Hadith from the Prophet (PBUH) which says “music creates Nefaq/hypocrisy in the heart”? Does this narration indirectly forbid listening to music?
The Grand Ayatollah Makarem: It means the types of music which are fitting for improper/immoral gatherings/ceremonies, and can be deduced indirectly as to be forbidden/Haram.
