SHAFAQNA – It is narrated from Imam Sadeq (AS) who said: Every time Imam Ali (AS) started preaching, used to say: It is appropriate that a Muslim avoid friendship with three types of people: 1) the fearless and shameless criminal 2) the foolish person and 3) the liar [1]. It is also narrated from Imam Ali (AS) who said: The worst friends are those who are present at the time of tranquillity and disappear at the time of difficulty [2]. It is narrated from Imam Baqir (AS) who said: Do not befriend or socialize with four types: 1) the foolish 2) the stingy 3) the coward 4) the liar; because the foolish person wants to help you but harms you; the stingy takes from you but does not return it to you; the coward escapes from you and his/her father and mother; and if the liar speaks the truth, no one will believe it [3]. In another narration Imam Sadeq (AS) said: Avoid friendship with the one who for the sake of greed and fear, or for the sake of his/her desires and eating or drinking comes to you; and seek friendship with righteous ones [4]. Imam Ali (AS) was asked: Which is the worst friend? Imam (AS) replied: The one who portrays committing sins to God, beautiful to you [5]. In this regard, it is narrated from Imam Hassan (AS) who said: Avoid friendship with corrupt person, because he/she will sell you for one meal or less [6].
