UKIP call for “Muslim-only” prison

SHAFAQNA– The United Kindom Independence party (UKIP) has called for creation of Muslim-only prisons and more stringent security checks for immigrants from “Islamic countries.”

The United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) has proposed “Muslim-only prisons” and special screening measures for Muslim migrants in an attempt to make the party “more populist”, reported the Independent.

The proposal was made in the party’s “Interim Manifesto” during its annual conference in Birmingham.

Other measures proposed in the document by the right-wing British party include a ban on mosques receiving foreign aid and abolition of hate-crimes.

The paper also suggested more stringent security checks for immigrants entering Britain from “Islamic countries”.

The UKIP manifesto claimed that segregation in prisons was important as non-Muslim inmates were frequently forced to convert “for their own protection”, Tribune reported.

In 2016, a report into racism commissioned by David Cameron confirmed that the percentage of Muslim population had surged in prisons. However, the report also said it was not clear if inmates were converting to Islam in prisons.

This is obviously not the only Islamophobic idea to have come from Batten. Earlier, he had claimed that “white English girls” in the UK were under threat from Muslim sex gangs, carbonated.tv reported.

Ukip’s manifesto claimed decades of sexual abuse of children had been covered up due to “political correctness and the fear of identifying the vast majority of the perpetrators as Muslims”.

Maajid Nawaz, chairman of counter-extremism Quilliam Foundation, described the change in policy as “the first step to Muslim concentration camps.”

Criticising the policy document, Nawaz tweeted “What next, deportation of all Muslim from these ‘Muslim only prisons,’ the rest of us civilized human beings will resist you to the end.”

Mr Batten denied taking his party to the far right, telling Sky News: “For the last 25 years, myself and everyone else in Ukip has worked to restore our country’s former status as an independent democratic nation that is governed by our politicians, elected by us, sackable by us, in accordance with our traditional laws and customs and constitution. If that makes you far right, I think whoever thinks that has got a very strange idea about what constitutes far right.”

Mr Batten said he wanted to use the two-day conference to present his Ukip as a populist alternative to the leading parties.

Mr Batten said the package was “aimed at helping the people who form the backbone of Britain: ordinary workers and taxpayers, the unemployed who would like to work, and small and medium-sized business owners”.

He added: “Its purpose is to make Ukip a populist party in the real meaning of the word – one whose policies are popular with voters”, the world news online reported.

The radical proposal also was slammed in social media.

Shehab Khan tweeted, “It’s time to accept that UKIP is NOT a mainstream party and is just full of racist, hate-filled fanatics that are a stain on society.”

“I am less impressed with the current direction we will go to”.

In another tweet, Moazzam Begg compared the move to Guantanamo Bay, a US detention center that allegedly tortured his prisoners.
