Ukrainian city, rocked by huge explosion

The blast took place near a rubber processing factory on Monday, and caused damage to buildings in the area.

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – A large explosion has rocked the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, which is in the control of pro-Russians.

The shockwaves caused by the explosion smashed windows in a radius of several kilometers.

A witness described the explosion as the largest to have happened in Donetsk for a long time.

The cause of the explosion is not yet clear and there is no information about the casualties and injuries.

The recent blast comes amid daily clashes between the Ukrainian army forces and pro-Russians continue despite a nominal ceasefire last month.

Both sides have accused each other of violating the truce since it was signed on September 5. The truce followed several months of deadly clashes in the east.

Also on Monday, Amnesty International blamed the violence committed in volatile eastern parts of Ukraine on both warring sides involved in the conflict in the former Soviet state.

Ukraine’s mainly Russian-speaking regions in the east have witnessed deadly clashes between pro-Moscow forces and the Ukrainian army since Kiev launched military operations to silence pro-Russians in mid-April. More than 3,700 people have reportedly been killed in the conflict.

Violence intensified in May after Donetsk and Lugansk regions held local referendums, in which their residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence from Ukraine.
